Republicans, Dump Trump!
I submitted the following as a letter to the editor of our local paper, The Laramie Boomerang on 8/7/2023.

SUBJECT:REPUBLICANS, CHOOSE BETTER, PLEASE!
I am not a Republican, but I have a lot of Republican friends. It’s early I know, but I sure hope you choose a better less controversial candidate for The Presidency than Donald J. Trump.
Personally, I am not one to care for a bully, but much worse than a mere bully is a “bully with a base.” Donald Trump is such a one in my opinion. In general, a bully is one who thinks he or she has a right to impose on another. It’s bad enough to have to deal with a bully who is only a one on one bully; but look out if one who is a bully becomes one with a base. That one can be dangerous with a capital DANGEROUS.
Donald Trump has now been indicted for trying to overthrow a past election – with a base. He is claiming there was fraud in the past election, but he is not doing it on his own, but rather counting on others to do his bidding for him – and in that light is paving the way for a lot of others to almost literally “go to war” for him. Do you Republicans really want such a bully to represent you – or our nation?
I am given to believe that recently Donald Trump stated in a tweet “if you come after me, I will be coming after you” – or something like that. Only a fool would believe he means “I” when he says “I will be coming after you.” He means “My base will be coming after you.” Why in the world support such a “base bully” when you have so many compassionate Republicans to support?
Who is his base? At least partially those who would be willing to take up arms to blast any opponent – just like many of Bully Trump’s base did on Jan. 6th, 2021. Is that what you want for a nominee for President? Please consider others – even the likes of our current Republican Wyoming Governor – Mark Gordon – if he would be willing to serve. Republicans, Please choose someone much less controversial than Donald J. Trump. OK?
