An Island Unto Myself - a poem

An Island Unto Myself

By

I am an island unto myself;

and, so, my friend, are you.

That is only to say that within myself,

I can find the truth.

That is so because

Everything is Divine;

and to look at anyone or thing

is for All Life to find.

I am an island unto myself;

all I need is to look at me.

There are, of course, other islands,

but all are the same as me.

We differ in our detail,

but in worth we are the same;

and so for me to look at me

is to find everyone in that place.

I'm an island unto myself.

No one else is needed to confirm.

All I see are other selfs

from a bird to a worm.

We are all in this thing of Life;

and together we should act.

But you be you and I'll be me;

and equality will be our pact.

I'm an island unto myself

because I'm as sacred as anyone.

An Infinite God must be in me;

and that's why my life should be fun.

It should not matter where I am

because All is Divine.

To see otherwise, my friend,

is to go through life as blind.

I'm an island unto myself.

So, let me enjoy my diversity.

And let me look at you

and let me know integrity.

Integrity is only looking at the whole

and knowing each member is of God.

To be at peace is to treat all as one

and to know that all deserve applause.

I'm an island unto myself.

I'm like a tiny seed

that can grow into a wondrous flower

or into a gigantic tree.

To plant a seed and watch it grow

is to become aware

that no matter what we are,

Divinity must be there.

So, come with me

to my island unto myself

and find that no one is an island

if compassion is what is felt.

Love truly abides on any island

if we Live Our Values Everyday;

and every mainland is like an island

if we but treat it thataway.
