Going Nowhere!
5/18/2017: 1 P.M.

Hello, All,

Opportunity knocks! I had planned on being in Chicago at this time today - or, rather, my companion, Nancy Shaw, and I had planned on being in Chicago; but then along came a sneaky spring snow storm - and our flight was cancelled. After going back to bed rather than going to the airport, I thought of a song I wrote in 1999 called Going Nowhere. For what it's worth, I just added that song to my ongoing work I am calling IT'S A NEW DAY that I plan on finishing in early 2019.

Actually, Nancy & I planned on flying to Chicago today where Nancy's sister, Dottie, and her husband, Don, were going to pick us up. Dottie is turning 80 next Monday and we had planned on being there for that; however, we were going to spend a few days with Dottie before her birthday too. Thus, we were going a little early. We will still be "early" if we catch a flight tomorrow, but be that as it may, missing a flight provided me an opportunity to think of the song below. How about that? Just goes to show that if one thing does not happen, another does; and in the long range of living life, it only matters that wherever you are is just as right as anywhere else you might be - simply because wherever you are, you are still the same ole you - or better, wherever I am, I am still the same ole me.

And missing our flight, Nancy and I will be able to attend a memorial service for a friend who passed recently. We would have missed that service if our flight had not been cancelled. Again, how about that? Madeline Dalrymple & George, we are glad we will be able to attend Doug's service today - all because, in a manner speaking, we "went nowhere" today.

I will leave you to my song. Sing it out as you wish; and Dottie, we still be there tomorrow - if our next flight is not cancelled too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Gently,

GOING NOWHERE

REFRAIN:

I’m going nowhere –

no matter where I go.

I’m going nowhere –

no matter who I know.

I’m going nowhere.

we’re the same – you and me –

cause where I go,

I’m still the same ole me.

I used to think I had to travel

this whole world wide

to find the love I need –

to find peace of mind.

But now I find that’s all I need

is the me that’s in this room –

For knowing me as a reflection of God

puts love into bloom.

Refrain.

People think they have to go

into someone else’s arms –

to find the love they need

to bring out all their charms.

But what they don’t realize

is all they need is their eyes -

For looking back at them in mirror

is God’s own sunrise.

Refrain.

I wonder why it is that people

can look up into the sky

and see only clouds

and miss God near and wide.

For God must be in everything,

in everything we see.

In everything that is is Precious God

and Blessed Divinity.

Refrain.

FINISH:

You’re going nowhere –

no matter where you go.

You’re going nowhere –

no matter who you know.

You’re going nowhere.

we’re the same – me and you.

You’re going nowhere –

cause where you go,

you’re still the same ole you.
