COVID & CLIMATE CHANGE

12/22/2020

Hello, Everyone!

For what it’s worth, partly because of having to deal with a pandemic this year and witnessing how badly we did, I have decided, as it were, that we better learn from our failures in dealing with a pandemic and not insist on ignoring science that predicts catastrophic planet upheaval if we do not change our ways and stop putting coal and oil pollutants in our air. Like so many of us ignored the warnings of our health experts and decided that wearing a mask is either useless or harmful, there are among us a comparable number who insist that old ways can continue without repercussions because “science probably has it wrong.”

I do hope we have learned that we were wrong. Scientists – or at least some scientists – have been warning us for ages that the pollutants we are putting in our air via automobiles and electricity producing plants are going to alter our climate and cause almost irreparable harm via intensifying storms. Many say storms are intensifying only because natural cycles are making it so – and that civilization is not responsible for chaotic happenings. That chaos would happen even if we did nothing to alter our atmosphere by adding pollutants.

Well, I disagree with those so called “scientists” who argue that we are not at least partly causing our own chaos. Something is happening that is causing storms to intensify – and I doubt very much that human action is not at least partly responsible for that. I can deny we are making a bad situation even worse, as it were, or I can come to terms with it being “probable” that something I am doing – and we are doing – is making things “worse.”

What did I do to make the pandemic “worse” than it could have been? I insisted on ignoring the science experts who told me from the beginning that I was putting myself at risk by not wearing a mask – and even worse, I was putting my friends and neighbors at risk by having the virus, and not knowing about it, spreading it about. Did I listen to those experts? Well, as a matter of fact, I did; but many did not and because of “our” failure to listen, we are paying a much larger price for this pandemic that we might have. At least, that is how I see it.

As I write this, we are closing in on 330,000 of us Americans having died from having caught COVID-19. Any death from it is bad enough, but nearly 330,000? Could we have kept it under 100,000 or maybe even just 50,000? Would have wearing a mask helped to restrict the death toll? The experts say yes; and given my experience of wearing a mask and not even catching a cold this year, I am led to believe the experts are right.

I am not a scientist, but I suspect some scientists are right about the climate change issue now facing us too. Some scientists disagree and claim that other scientists are wrong – just as some scientists did not believe the pandemic would amount to anything too. Which scientists were right? Which were wrong?

I will leave it at that for now. I need time to think about this climate change issue a bit more than I have so far. So, as my Dad used to say, Francis, put on your thinking cap. Well, I am going to do that and then report later about what I have thought. OK?

And you can think about it too. Let us all think about it – and maybe after 2021 begins, come together and share what we have thought. Any of you who want to respond can do so. I will combine all our thoughts into a new blog and put our collective thoughts out there in my website – as well as share your comments with my email list. You say it. I will report it. Alright?

For now, let us keep our masks on while we wait for one of those wonderful vaccines that “science” is blessing us with now. Wow! I am so glad we can be assisted with scientific ratified vaccines and maybe stall our death toll from COVID-19 to just half a million or lower. Can you believe it? Half a million of us Americans dead from a virus that with proper preventive measures we could have kept much lower.

Or so, I Believe!

Merry Christmas, Everyone! And a Happy and Safe 2021 to us All!
Remember! Be part of my first blog of 2021! Tell me what you think we should do about climate change – and I will do the same.

Bye for now!

Gently,
