On Stupidity of Killing Muslim General
1/6/2020

Hello, Everyone!

Just a comment or two about America's recent "taking out" a "Muslim General." Allegedly, our President is Christian and sees no problem with returning violence for violence - though, as I see it, the main principle for Christianity and Christians should be just the opposite. What has happened to Christ's directive to "turn the other cheek" when someone hits us on one side? Clearly, all narratives about Jesus are clear that he directed his followers to do as he did, not as they were previously prone to do - hit someone if that one first hit them.

We call it "justice," but it was a previous eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, life for a life ideal - not what Christ tried to suggest; and yet, we Christians often follow a "do unto others what they have done to us" legend of life - not a "do unto others what we would have them do unto us."

Why did our "Christian President" think it is right to take another out if that other has taken out many of us? My answer: that "Christian President" does not understand that Christ would have disagreed. He thinks that somehow it is just fine for a "Christian" to act in revenge when it is clear to me that Christ taught that revenge is not only wrong, but totally contrary to a way of peace. I guess I would say that I think our "Christian President" is a Christian in name only - and many of my fellow Christians agree with our "Christian President" - and not with Christ.

If I were our "Christian President," I would have tried to meet with that Muslim General to work out a peace, not war. I would not have "taken him out."  So, what have we gained by "taking him out"? Revenge is two-sided. How many of us will be "taken out" in revenge by followers of that "Muslim General"? I do believe "revenge might be 'just,' but it's also Stupid – at least partly because revenge is a two way street. How wise is that?
